Trail Report: Over to Carter Dome and Beyond! (Part two)

So in my last post I ended on Mt. Hight 4675'. After resting on top, I left Mt. Hight and  traveled on Carter Dome trail over to Carter Dome 4832'. Carter Dome was a little depressing for me. There was a view point I found to take  picture from, but the trail on top was surrounded by trees.

After Carter Dome, headed down the Carter Dome trail 1.4 to the Carter Notch Hut. As we neared the steep climb down the side over to the Hut, there was a sign for a view! I love a good view so I hiked up the trail which was short to see this...

You are very close to a cliff at the view, be safe!

After the view, we traveled down to the Hut. The Hut is smaller then some of the others I have been to, like Lake of the Clouds. There were four tables to sit at, they said not as many people have been staying this summer, though that night they were going to have 40 people which as great! When you stay at the Hut, the care takers will wake you up at 6:30am! So you better be an early bird if you stay at the Hut!

There are other buildings that are for sleeping (as shown) with a nice view of the mountains near by. The bathrooms are located in a separate building off the side of the other buildings.

After leaving Carter Notch Hut, we traveled down the 19 miles Brook Tr, which is 3.9 miles from the Hut, back to the parking. The Hike itself was 10.4 miles, and we started at 10am to just about 6pm. It was worth the hike. Perfect Day as well.

Hiking Pickham Notch....In the White Mountains!

I have always loved traveling through Pinkham Notch as a child up through my twenties on my way to Storyland where I worked every summer. There were always some beautiful view to look at on Route 16! I remember how many wild animal encounters I had on that road, mainly moose! I loved traveling by Mt. Washington and seeing Tuckerman Ravine along the way. As a child my parents took us hiking places around Pinkham Notch and later on I did some of the trails myself. Here are a few place you should check out on your next adventure! up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire!

Glen Ellis Falls...This is located across from on Route 16. It's a very easy trail, I remember my parents taking me here as a child. It's about .6 miles round trip. The Waterfall is beautiful! It's 64-foot waterfall! It's a must see!!

Lost Pond....This is also a trail my parents took me down as a kid. I loved following the river to the pond, I also remember seeing beavers. And it was a great place to view Mt. Washington! This was a mile walk around, but a fun place to bring the family. Follow the trail all the way down and it will lead you to Glen Ellis Falls!

Nineteen Mile Brook Trail...that leads to AMC Carter Notch Hut! GREAT HIKE! It is about 7.5 miles round trip, and if you want to hike longer, can head one way to Mt. Wildcat or the other way over to Carter Dome!
Both Mts are 4000 footers! I have been up Mt. Wildcat! Great Views! This is on Route 16 closer to Gorham, not far from the Mt. Washington Auto Road!

Tuckerman Ravine...this is a great hike! I loved hiking here as a child and as an adult! The trail starts at Pinkham Notch Visitors Center. It's about 2.3 miles to get to Hermit Lake Shelter. I came up here once in spring and watched skiers and snowboarders fly down Tuckerman Ravine! There is always snow up here until June believe it or not!

Thompson Falls Trail...starts at Wildcat Mountain Base Lodge and is about 1.4 miles round trip! There is a lovely waterfall when you reach the top.

Glen Boulder...I remember going up here when I was younger. The trail is across from Glen Ellis Falls. You follow up Glen Boulder Trail to Glen Boulder. This is about 1.6 miles up, if you want to continue on there is also Slide Peak and it's about one mile from Glen Boulder. Nice views!

Hiking WildCat

My friend and I really wanted to hike one day but not a very long hike. There was a trail called the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail. It started on Route 16 before Great Glen Trails. It was a beautiful day, the weather was nice when we started our hike. We switch trails at the end to the Wildcat Ridge. We went all the way up to Wildcat A which is 4422ft. There we over looked AMC Carter North Hut. It was cool because they were using helicopters to transport items to the hut. We ate lunch and then started back down the trail we came on. It was about a three hour hike in all. If we would have kept going on the Wildcat Ridge Trail we would have hit all the peaks on the mountain ridge, A, B, C, D, and E. This is a hike I would do again but do the Wildcat Ridge to the Glen Ellis Falls.
