Trail Report: Mt. Webster / Mt. Jackson

I had headed over to Crawford Notch and hiked Mt. Webster and Mt. Jackson. We parked near the Gateway of the North and headed up the trail Webester-Jackson Trail. It was not that muddy at all and an enjoyable hike. We also had great weather. We stopped at Bugle Cliff to take a few pictures and then headed up the trail to the intersection where we then continued on Webester Branch. It took 1.4 miles to get to the Branch. After it was another 1.0 mile over to Mt. Webster.

Mt. Webster had some beautiful views. We stayed for awhile to eat our lunch and take pictures. Mt. Webster is 3910 ft high. I loved the view of Mt. Washington! Here are a few pictures of the views:

 After this we headed up to Mt. Jackson which was up the Webster Cliff Trail, another 1.3 miles. The trail was rocky in some parts but not bad to hike up. You are in the open a lot so you will be hot and the sun will be beating on you! We had lots of water and tried to find shade at times to stop and break. Mt. Jackson is 4052 ft and had some more lovely views! I had hiked it back in 2005 so I was excited to be back on top looking around again.

The views were so beautiful and I could have stayed up there forever!

After enjoying the views and taking pictures we headed down the Jackson Branch (1.2 miles) which will connect back to the Webster-Jackson Trail. It was great for you get to hike two mountains and connect back to the same trail for you make a triangle. The hike all toegther is about 5.5 hours and 6.3miles! Great day hike! HAPPY HIKING!

Winter Hiking in Crawford Notch Part 1

Elephant Head

This was a great day for a hike in the White Mountains. The trail that was taken this hiking trip was Webster-Jackson Trail, for it leads to both mountains. The weather was 20 degrees. I decided to take my stepson up the trail to Elephant Head and Beagle Cliff. Now Elephant Head is not far the start of the trail and gives some great views of Crawford Notch. There is parking across the road near the Gateway of the Notch or you can also park also the Saco Lake. I have also parked near the Crawford Notch Depot, there is also a gift shop there if you are a site seeing and want to pick up a item of Crawford Notch and the White Mountains.

There is a sign that you will see when you get to the entrance of the trail. 

This sign is right near the road so you can't miss it. 

The trail was well packed by other hikers, but had some

ice patches in many places.

The sign for Elephant head is very large so you can't miss

the trail that takes you there. It's about .2 miles

from the main trail. Worth seeing!

After we saw the views from Elephant Head, we hiked back and 

went up the main trail some more to Bugle Cliff

which had some beautiful views as well and

Mt. Jackson in Crawford Notch

I love Crawford Notch. One of the mountains I hiked there was Mt. Jackson. My friend and I started at the AMC Highland Center which is on the right side of where the trail started. We parked near Saco Lake. The temperature that day was about 70 degrees. It was a beautiful sunny day. The sky had a few clouds. The trail we started on was Webster-Jackson Trail. We went over Bugle cliff and trailed up to Jackson Branch. The Webster-Jackson Trail is about 1.4 miles. The Jackson Branch is 1.2 after to the top. That trail is steeper and harder to hike. We stopped a few times to see the views for the trees where low. The view on top of Mt. Jackson was wonderful. You could see all away around. I loved the view of the Mt. Washington Hotel on the right side of the peak. We ate lunch up there and relaxed before descending down the mountain. We took the same trails down. the hike over all took about  four hours. It was a great hike! We did it in the late spring, but I wonder what it would be like to do it in the fall with the changing of the leaves.
